Old news: What the hell happened at OpenAI? My best attempt at a backwards looking summary is below.
Sam Altman out after board coup, another board member is ‘relieved of duty’ and removed, interim CEO in, interim CEO tries to hire Sam back, interim CEO replaced with a person I will refer to as ‘interim CEO the second’, interim CEO the second threatens to resign if not shown evidence of Sam’s wrongdoing, entire company (including the person who was the tipping vote in the board coup) threatens to resign if Sam isn't reinstated, Sam joins Microsoft and tweets hearts at former coworkers, interim CEO the second seems to advocate for a slowdown in progress, Sam rehired and board reformed, news leaks that this may have been precipitated by a breakthrough in a mathematical reasoning model everything goes back to normal??
New news: Tesla launches next gen Cybertruck
The truck is 4 years in the making, and the first few reviews are highly positive (Youtube)
One reviewer talks about going into his time with the truck and the team expecting to hate it, then meeting the engineering team and experiencing the truck and coming away completely stunned. You can see how astounded he is (Youtube)
As a reminder, Tesla is the only company making EVs profitably at scale in the US. The below are PER VEHICLE profit/losses for various automakers
Tesla: $8,500 profit per vehicle
Rivian: -$30,500 loss per vehicle
Ford: -$36,000 loss per vehicle
Lucid: -$433,000 loss per vehicle
